Car charging stations are generally divided into AC charging stations and DC charging stations. The difference between the two types of piles is that one belongs to slow charging and the other belongs to fast charging. It takes 6-8 hours to fully charge an AC charging station, while a DC charging station only takes 30-1h to fully charge.


From the perspective of charging time, DC charging stations have significant advantages, with the attraction of fast charging time being particularly strong.

However, considering various factors, both types of charging piles have their own application scenarios, and the market for AC charging piles seems to be even larger.
AC charging stations
For AC charging stations, firstly, the cost is low, the construction is relatively simple, and the load on the transformer is not very large. The distribution cabinets in the community can be directly installed with electricity.

The charging power of the AC charging station can reach up to 7KW. As long as it is an electric vehicle, it generally supports AC charging. Electric vehicles have two charging ports, one is a fast charging port and the other is a slow charging port. Some non-standard electric vehicles may only use AC charging ports and cannot use DC charging stations.

For DC charging stations, they convert 380V power into high current DC charging voltage through transformers. The charging current can reach 32A and the charging power can reach 45 kW. Generally, electric vehicles can be fully charged in one to two hours without taking up too much time.

Although DC charging stations are good, they have a major drawback, which is that installation and construction are relatively complicated. Due to the high charging power of DC charging piles, there are high requirements for power supply and transformers to have sufficient load capacity to support such a large power. Many old residential areas do not have installation conditions due to the lack of pre installed lines and transformers.

However, it should be noted that DC charging piles will be the trend in the development of the charging pile market. Coastal cities have already begun to lay out and contract car yards to operate charging piles. The investment cost for a car charging station is tens of thousands of yuan, and a parking lot requires an investment of several hundred thousand yuan. Nowadays, the supply of DC charging stations is in short supply, and the utilization rate of parking lots is high. Generally, the equipment can recover its cost within a year.

In general, both DC charging piles and AC charging piles have their own advantages. If it is a newly built community, DC charging piles can be directly planned. If there is an old community, AC charging piles can be used for charging, which can meet the charging needs of users without causing a large load on the community transformers.
