Delhi's New EV Policy Opens New Opportunities for India's Charging and Battery Swapping Infrastructure

On 29 June 2026, the Government of Delhi officially approved the Delhi EV Policy 2026, which came into effect on 1 July 2026 and will remain valid until 31 March 2030. An upgraded version of the 2020 EV Policy, it allocates around ₹150 billion (approximately US$1.7 billion) over the next four years to support the adoption of electric two-wheelers, passenger vehicles and light commercial vehicles, while accelerating the development of charging infrastructure.

Beyond driving EV adoption, the policy signals a clear shift towards strengthening India's energy replenishment infrastructure, laying the foundation for the country's next stage of electric mobility.

According to the policy, Delhi plans to expand its existing charging network by deploying more than 30,000 public charging points, thereby providing stronger infrastructure support for the rapidly growing EV market.

For the industry, this represents more than just increased demand for charging equipment. It also highlights the growing need for integrated energy replenishment solutions, including charging systems, intelligent battery swapping stations, software platforms and localised operation and maintenance capabilities.
